Wind power across the globe expanded by 20% in 2012 – reaching a global energy capacity of 282 gigawatts (GW) as well as solar power seeing its capacity doubled 100gw.
Across the globe, 45 GW of turbines were installed across the globe with China and United States leading the way, installing a combined total of 26GW whilst Germany, India and the UK held up the rest of the pack.
The graph above details the spread amongst four regions across the globe Europe, Asia, the Pacific Region and North America and how they compare against each region within them.
Moving forward into 2013 it is difficult to predict what will happen to wind generation as the Eurozones debt crisis worsens but there will no doubt be progress due to the EU having specific targets for the renewable 2020 target. This will ensure that renewable energieswill grow at a steady rate but possibly not at the sharp incline of 2012.
