But it’s important to remember that when it comes to energy, saving money often means saving energy too, so there are two important reasons to make sure you’re reducing you’re bills. Here are our favourite tips from the article, and the way they can also help the environment:

Insulation: Finding out if you quality for free or discounted home insulation is a great way to reduce your bills and reduce the amount of energy you use on a long term basis.

Meter readings: The Energy Savings Trust has reported that those who don’t get their meter checked regularly tend to have higher bills than others, and it’s also a great way to check your bills are in line with previous years so you know things are working as efficiently as possible.

Household improvements: Other things that can save on bills and energy nclude getting double glazing to retain heat, putting timers on lights so they don’t get left on and using carpets and thick black out curtains as extra insulators!

Obviously there was a range of other great tips for saving money, including checking to see if you qualify for a discount with any energy suppliers for being over a certain age, and switching to direct debit or arranging to pay online to reduce costs.

You can also help save money by phoning the home heat helpline, which can advise on any grants you might be entitled too. This helpline can also offer information for anyone having trouble understanding their bills (don’t we all sometimes?) – so it’s a handy one to remember.
